Service charges are costs which are made in the common interests of the tenants. Examples are the costs of cleaning the building and lift maintenance. They are additional costs which the landlord is permitted to charge and which you are obliged to pay. Always make sure to verify which costs are included in a tenancy agreement prior to signing it. Also make sure to have these costs specified in the tenancy agreement.
