What does it cost?

Make sure that your income exceeds your spending. If it doesn't, you will run into debts. First find yourself work or, if you are eligible, have your student grant or benefits secured. When you have done that, you can look for accommodation.
Below is a summarised overview of the costs which you may face per month.
  • Rent;
  • Costs of gas, water and electricity*;
  • Municipal taxes and levies*;
  • Health insurance;
  • Household contents insurance;
  • Liability insurance;
  • Telephone costs;
  • Living (clothing, food and personal care).
* These costs might be included in the rent, but make sure that are specified separately.

It is impossible to give the exact amount of costs, but we can give an estimate. All of the above costs are fixed expenses, which means that you will have to pay them each month. The minimum amount which you need to reserve for fixed expenses is €600,-. Bear in mind that you will have other costs besides your fixed expenses, such as for your study and personal transport.

On www.jongeren.vestia.nl you can make your own cost calculations.
