Inspecting student accommodation

If you would like to take a room in a house where other students live, this is usually preceded by a meeting of approval. A meeting of approval allows you to meet the occupants of a student house. This is the moment for them and for you to decide whether you fit in with the group of occupants.
Examples of what the present occupants might want to know from you:
  • Your personality. Who are you? What do you do in your daily life?
  • What can you contribute to the house? Your cooking skills, your washing machine, your good company...
  • Do you have any specific culinary wishes (being on a strict diet, for example, makes it difficult for others to cook for you at the same time)
Tips:
  • All the occupants will want to attend the meeting of approval. Establishing a convenient date is often a problem. So you are the one who will have to adjust your schedule accordingly.
  • Arrange the meeting for as early in the morning or evening as possible. The occupants will be staying at home for the occasion. They are likely to be less motivated later in the day.
  • Bear in mind to always be yourself during the meeting. Pretending to be someone who you are not might work for 30 minutes, but certainly not for an entire year.
