Municipal taxes

Property tax (OZB) is levied on all immovable property within the municipality. Immovable property is considered to be ground and everything that is permanently connected to that ground, such as a houses or company offices. There are two kinds of property tax: For property tax owners and for property tax users.
In addition, the municipality levies sewerage charges. These charges are required in order to cover maintenance and renewal of the sewerage system.
Waste collection levies are a form of taxation in order to cover the costs of collecting and processing household refuse. Waste collection levies are only paid by households.

Hi There,

I am renting an apartment with 2 other people. The rent cost is all-in and also including service costs (which is 300 EUR a month). Now i got a letter from the 'Regional Belasting' about trash and housing taxes? My question is: isn't this supposed to be paid by the owner that rent the house? I mean we are paying all-in including service costs?

Do you have any more information about this?

Thanks and Cheers!
Eve

Hi Eve, there are certain taxes that must be paid by the owners. Other taxes have to be paid by the people that 'use' certain services. The 'OZB belasting' has seperate parts for both owners and users. The trash/garbage tax is especially something that accounts for those who make use of the disposal services. If you have the feeling something is wrong you can contact the Rental team (see: http://ikzithier.nl/en/226/)
