A housing permit is required for residential accommodation with a basic rent below €647.53. Youngsters under the age of 18 are not given a permit. As of 2009, the processing for a housing permit costs €38.23.

If you are renting living accommodation from a housing corporation, you will receive an application form for the housing permit while signing the tenancy agreement.

If you are renting private accommodation, you can obtain an application form from the District Office, a real estate agent or the Urban Development Services (Dienst Stedelijke Ontwikkeling).
